How your treatment journey works
Begin with a Signature Assessment ✦ near Tamworth. Your 90-minute appointment with Dr Keely includes Smile Design, a comprehensive examination and clinically appropriate diagnostics, with your itemised plan and costs discussed on the day and a personalised written report afterwards.
We use only genuine IPS e.max® veneers from one of the UK’s leading dental laboratories. Renowned for their strength, beauty, and lifelike translucency, e.max® veneers allow us to create results that are both durable and incredibly natural. Using minimally invasive techniques, each veneer is shaped to replicate natural anatomy — a true piece of functional art.
Your First Appointment
Your first step is the Signature Assessment ✦ with Dr Keely. It combines Smile Design, a comprehensive examination and clinically appropriate diagnostics in one 90-minute appointment.
We discuss your itemised treatment plan and costs on the day. A personalised written report follows afterwards. Any treatment is priced separately, with no obligation to proceed.
Plan & Trial
Where alignment, whitening, bonding or restorative treatment first could create a healthier or more conservative result, we plan that sequence before touching the teeth. A Trial Smile then allows you to explore the proposed proportions and character before the final porcelain is made.
Prepare & Refine
Tooth preparation is kept as conservative as the clinical situation allows. Temporary restorations are used where required while your e.max® veneers are individually handcrafted and refined.
Final Fit
At the fit appointment, each veneer is checked for appearance, fit and bite before being carefully bonded into place and reviewed as part of the complete smile.
Porcelain veneers are designed as long-term restorations, so the natural teeth and gums underneath them still need excellent care. Brush thoroughly, clean between the teeth and attend professional hygiene at the interval recommended for you.
Avoid using veneered teeth to bite very hard objects or open packaging. If you grind or clench, we may recommend a night guard to protect both the porcelain and the underlying teeth.
We also review the margins, bite and surrounding gum health over time so small changes can be identified before they become larger problems.

How long does it take to get veneers?
A typical veneer journey takes several weeks because design, trial stages, laboratory work and fitting all need time. Your own sequence depends on the number of teeth and whether any other treatment needs to happen first.
Do you file down my teeth?
Porcelain veneers usually require some degree of tooth preparation, but the amount varies considerably. Our aim is to preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible, and where alignment, whitening or bonding could achieve the goal more conservatively, we discuss those routes first.
Is it painful?
Treatment is carried out with appropriate local anaesthetic where required and paced around your comfort. Temporary sensitivity or tenderness can occur, but we plan and review this with you rather than expecting you to tolerate discomfort.
Exceptional
We use genuine IPS e.max® porcelain, detailed digital planning and one of the UK’s leading dental laboratories to create restorations with strength, translucency, texture and natural anatomy in mind.
Bespoke
Veneers should look like you, not like a standard smile. Shape, shade, proportion and micro-texture are designed around your facial features, lip line, existing teeth and the character you want the finished result to retain.
Wellness
Complex cosmetic appointments are deliberately unhurried. We build in time for trial stages, discussion, breaks and refinement so you remain in control and the clinical work is never rushed.
What are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin, individually crafted ceramic restorations designed to enhance the shape, shade and proportions of your teeth. At The Dental Barns, we use genuine e.max® porcelain for its strength and natural translucency, with every veneer carefully planned to complement your smile while preserving as much healthy natural tooth structure as possible.

Porcelain Veneers Questions: Tamworth Guide
Considering porcelain veneers? We have answered the questions patients from Tamworth most often ask us — from costs and tooth preparation to longevity, natural results and visiting our practice.
The cost depends on what you would like to change and which treatment is appropriate.
At The Dental Barns, composite bonding starts from £395 per tooth, genuine e.max® porcelain veneers start from £995 per tooth and clear aligner treatment starts from £4,195, with current tiers of £4,195, £5,295 and £6,395 according to complexity.
More comprehensive smile makeovers can combine several stages and therefore vary considerably in overall cost. We provide a detailed personalised treatment plan before you decide to proceed, including the recommended sequence and complete fees. You can also view our wider dental pricing online.
That depends on what you would like to change and whether veneers are the most appropriate way of achieving it.
Porcelain veneers offer excellent aesthetics, strength and stain resistance and can provide a long-term solution for carefully selected patients. However, we do not recommend veneers simply because someone wants a cosmetic change.
Where whitening, orthodontics or composite bonding can achieve a better or more conservative result, we will discuss those options too.
Yes. The Dental Barns offers finance options, including up to 12 months interest-free finance, subject to eligibility.
Your complete treatment cost will be confirmed before treatment begins, allowing you to understand both the overall investment and any available payment options clearly.
At The Dental Barns, e.max® porcelain veneers start from £995 per tooth.
The exact fee depends on the complexity of the restoration and the planning required. Our veneers are individually designed and handcrafted rather than produced as a standardised set, allowing the shape, shade, texture and translucency to be tailored to your smile.
Porcelain veneer costs depend on the number of teeth being treated and the complexity of the individual case.
At The Dental Barns, genuine e.max® porcelain veneers start from £995 per tooth. Every case is planned individually, and you will receive a clear treatment plan and breakdown of costs before deciding whether to proceed.
For some patients, a single veneer is all that is required. Others may choose several veneers as part of a wider smile transformation.
Yes. the Signature Assessment ✦ gives Dr Keely time to assess your dental health, understand your concerns and discuss recommendations you may already have received. It combines Smile Design, a comprehensive examination and clinically appropriate diagnostics.
We discuss your itemised treatment plan and costs on the day. Afterwards, you receive a personalised written report explaining the findings, reasoning and proposed stages of care.
The total fee is £450, with a £225 deposit deducted from that total. This pays for your assessment, plan and report, whether or not you choose to have treatment with The Dental Barns. You are welcome to take time to consider the advice or share your report with another dentist, who may need to carry out their own assessment.
A cosmetic dentist focuses on improving the appearance of the smile while protecting dental health and function.
That can involve changing tooth position with Invisalign®, refining shape with composite bonding, replacing or enhancing the visible tooth surface with e.max® porcelain veneers, whitening teeth, or combining several treatments through Smile Design.
At The Dental Barns, cosmetic dentistry is planned around the whole face and the health of the mouth rather than simply making teeth straighter or whiter.
Absolutely, where it is clinically appropriate.
A single veneer can sometimes be used to improve one tooth that differs in shape, proportion, colour or appearance from its neighbours.
The challenge with a single veneer is making it disappear naturally into the surrounding smile, which is why careful shade matching, texture and translucency are particularly important.
Most patients find veneer treatment much more comfortable than they expected.
Appointments are carefully managed around your comfort, and local anaesthetic can be used where appropriate. We also deliberately allow plenty of clinical time so your treatment does not feel rushed.
Our aim is for even complex cosmetic dentistry to feel calm and considered.
Yes. Predictability is a major part of our approach.
We create an initial smile design and use a Trial Smile so you can see how the proposed changes relate to your face and smile before committing to the final porcelain.
Temporary veneers also provide another opportunity to assess the shape, proportions and overall appearance before your final e.max® restorations are completed.
We do not take a one-size-fits-all approach to tooth preparation.
Our philosophy is to preserve as much healthy natural tooth structure as possible. Some cases require extremely little preparation, while others may require more depending on the existing position, shape and condition of the teeth.
Where significant tooth reduction would otherwise be required, we may discuss alternatives such as orthodontic alignment first.
A typical e.max® porcelain veneer journey at The Dental Barns takes around 4–6 weeks.
We deliberately allow time for detailed planning, your Trial Smile, any necessary tooth preparation, high-quality temporary veneers and the craftsmanship required to create the final porcelain restorations.
The final veneers are then carefully assessed and fitted once both you and your dentist are happy with the result.
There is no set number. Some patients need only one veneer to restore or improve a particular tooth, while others choose several veneers across the teeth visible when they smile.
We plan this around your individual smile rather than automatically recommending a particular number. Your lip line, tooth position, proportions and the amount of tooth visible when you smile all influence the final recommendation.
Veneers do not require a complicated maintenance routine.
Good daily brushing, interdental cleaning and regular professional hygiene care remain the foundations. Avoiding habits such as nail biting or using your teeth to open packaging will also help protect them.
We will give you personalised aftercare advice based on your smile and bite.
Porcelain veneers are strong, but like natural teeth they are not indestructible.
Biting very hard objects, nail biting, trauma or significant grinding can place excessive forces on them. Where grinding is identified, we may recommend additional protection such as a night guard.
e.max® porcelain veneers are designed as a durable, long-term restoration, but there is no single lifespan that applies to every patient.
Longevity depends on factors including your bite, tooth position, grinding habits, oral hygiene and how the veneers are cared for.
Careful planning before treatment is therefore just as important as the quality of the porcelain itself.
High-quality porcelain such as e.max® is considerably more resistant to staining than composite resin.
That makes it particularly suitable for patients looking for a stable, long-term cosmetic result. Your surrounding natural teeth can still change colour over time, however, which is why regular hygiene care and sensible maintenance remain important.
Veneers should generally be considered a long-term commitment.
Although we aim to use extremely conservative preparation, some alteration of the natural tooth may be required depending on the case. Once a tooth has been prepared for a veneer, it will normally continue to require a restoration in the future.
This is one of the reasons we discuss more conservative options first where appropriate.
The natural tooth beneath a veneer can still develop decay, just as any other tooth can.
That is why we make sure your teeth and gums are healthy before cosmetic treatment begins and why excellent oral hygiene remains important afterwards.
Careful veneer design and precise bonding also help create margins that can be cleaned and maintained properly.
Veneers should only be considered once the teeth and gums are healthy.
Active tooth decay, uncontrolled gum disease or significant bite problems may need to be treated first. Heavy grinding, severe tooth wear or substantially misaligned teeth may also change the treatment we recommend.
Our priority is creating a result that is healthy and sustainable rather than simply placing veneers wherever requested.
There is no single treatment that always looks the most natural. Natural appearance comes from choosing the right treatment and designing it well.
Sometimes the most natural result is simply straightening the existing teeth with Invisalign® and whitening them. Small shape changes can often be achieved beautifully with composite bonding. Where porcelain is appropriate, genuine e.max® veneers can reproduce enamel translucency and texture extremely well.
Our preference is always to preserve as much of your own healthy smile as possible and enhance it rather than replace its character.
No. Once porcelain veneers have been made, whitening gels will not change their shade.
For that reason, where whitening is part of your treatment plan we would usually complete it before the final veneer shade is selected. This allows the porcelain to be matched beautifully to your newly brightened natural teeth.
Yes — but we will guide you rather than simply selecting a colour from a chart.
Your veneer design takes account of your facial proportions, existing teeth, lip line, skin tone and the overall character you want your smile to have.
Your Trial Smile gives us an opportunity to refine these details together before the final porcelain is completed.
They should.
Our aim is not to create a uniform row of bright white teeth. We use genuine e.max® porcelain because of its ability to reproduce the translucency and light behaviour of natural enamel.
Shape, proportion, shade, micro-texture and the way your teeth relate to your lips and face are all considered individually. The objective is a smile that looks naturally yours rather than noticeably veneered.
Your transformation is led by Dr Keely Thorne, our lead Smile Design dentist, who specialises in creating bespoke, natural-looking makeovers that sit in perfect harmony with the individual.
We utilise a "face-driven" design philosophy, which means we don't just look at your teeth in isolation; instead, we analyse your facial symmetry, lip dynamics, and even your personality to ensure the length, shape, and "incisal edge" of your new teeth look entirely harmonious.
By using premium IPS e.max® and IPS Empress®, Dr Thorne can choose from a vast palette of shades and translucencies to match your natural aesthetics perfectly, ensuring your results never look "artificial" but rather like a rejuvenated version of your natural self.
Yes, and we often recommend it as the first step. By using the Enlighten® Evolution system to reach a guaranteed B1 shade, we can then match your bonding or veneers to this new, brighter baseline.
This ensures a cohesive, radiant result across your entire smile. Because we are a specialist destination, we take the time to ensure every detail of your appearance is perfected before you leave our tranquil Lichfield practice.
Both options offer a stunning transformation, but the finish differs slightly:
- Composite Bonding: Hand-sculpted using IPS Empress®, this provides a beautiful, natural luster that is ideal for correcting minor chips or spacing in a single visit.
- Porcelain Veneers: Using IPS e.max®, these offer a superior, glass-like translucency and are highly resistant to staining, making them the gold standard for a permanent, "red carpet" finish.
Sometimes — and when it is appropriate, doing so can make the final restorative treatment considerably more conservative.
If teeth are crowded, rotated or positioned too far forward, adding composite or porcelain directly may create unnecessary bulk or require more tooth preparation. Moving the teeth first with Invisalign® can place them in a better position before bonding or veneers are considered.
Not every patient needs orthodontics first. We assess the existing tooth position, bite and desired result before recommending the sequence.
Yes. Combining treatments is often the most conservative way to achieve a comprehensive result.
For example, Invisalign® may first improve tooth position so that less restorative material is required. Whitening can then establish the final shade, with composite bonding used for subtle shape changes or porcelain veneers used selectively where a greater restorative change is appropriate.
The important part is sequencing the treatments correctly. Our Smile Design process plans the finished result first and then works backwards to determine the safest route.
A veneer primarily covers the visible front surface of a tooth and is generally used where much of the underlying natural tooth remains healthy.
A crown surrounds considerably more of the tooth and is usually chosen where additional structural protection is required.
Our preference is always to preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible and recommend the least invasive restoration capable of providing a predictable result.
Neither treatment is universally better.
Composite bonding is highly conservative, can often be completed more quickly and is relatively straightforward to repair or modify. Porcelain veneers offer greater stain resistance, excellent translucency and a more durable long-term restorative material.
Your existing teeth, bite, aesthetic goals and how much change is required determine which treatment makes the most sense. At The Dental Barns we offer both, so there is no reason to push you toward one option over another.
Our practice is set within Blackbrook Barns, with countryside views, a patient lounge and free private parking.
