How your treatment journey works
Begin with a Signature Assessment ✦ near Tamworth. Your 90-minute appointment with Dr Keely includes Smile Design, a comprehensive examination and clinically appropriate diagnostics, with your itemised plan and costs discussed on the day and a personalised written report afterwards.
We use 3Shape 3D scanners for industry-leading accuracy to capture precise images of your teeth. We then plan your Invisalign® treatment in-house. Your aligners are manufactured by Align Technology and we manage your progress personally from start to finish.
Throughout your journey, we stay closely connected using DentalMonitoring for weekly progress updates. Your smile is perfected with Enlighten® Whitening and retained using Vivera® retainers from Align Technology.
Your First Appointment
Your first step is the Signature Assessment ✦ with Dr Keely. It combines Smile Design, a comprehensive examination and clinically appropriate diagnostics in one 90-minute appointment.
We discuss your itemised treatment plan and costs on the day. A personalised written report follows afterwards. Any treatment is priced separately, with no obligation to proceed.
Digital Planning & Aligner Fit
We create your clinician-led Invisalign® plan around the movements required, your bite and the finished smile we are aiming to achieve. Once agreed, your aligners are fitted and we explain wear, cleaning and what to expect.
Weekly Monitoring & Refinement
DentalMonitoring® allows us to review progress remotely each week, with in-practice reviews whenever a physical assessment is needed. Refinements are used where clinically appropriate before the case is completed.
Whiten & Retain
Once alignment is complete and stable, we review the final smile, complete the planned Enlighten® Whitening and protect the result with Vivera® retainers.
Wear your aligners for the recommended daily time, remove them for eating and drinking anything other than water, and clean your teeth before putting them back in wherever practical.
Oral hygiene is especially important during aligner treatment. For many patients we recommend professional hygiene around every 6–8 weeks, although your interval is tailored to your individual risk and how well the teeth and gums are coping with treatment.
DentalMonitoring® helps us keep a close eye on progress between visits, but it does not replace good home care or professional hygiene where this is clinically needed.
Once treatment is complete, retainers become part of protecting the result long term. We will give you a clear retention and maintenance plan.
How to Get Started
Your first step is the Signature Assessment ✦ with Dr Keely. It combines Smile Design, a comprehensive examination and clinically appropriate diagnostics in one 90-minute appointment.
We discuss your itemised treatment plan and costs on the day. A personalised written report follows afterwards. Any treatment is priced separately, with no obligation to proceed.
How long does Invisalign® take?
Many treatments take around 6 to 18 months, although simpler and more complex cases can fall outside that range. Your own timeframe depends on the movements required and is established after clinical assessment and digital planning.
Do I need to come in often?
Not usually. DentalMonitoring® allows us to review progress remotely each week, but we still bring you into practice whenever a physical review, adjustment or assessment is needed.
What happens after treatment?
Once alignment is complete, we review the result together, complete the planned whitening and fit Vivera® retainers to protect the new tooth positions long term.
Exceptional
Invisalign® is only one part of the treatment. We combine 3D scanning, clinician-led digital planning, DentalMonitoring® and detailed clinical oversight so tooth movement is planned around your bite, dental health and final smile.
Bespoke
Your treatment tier, movements, refinements and any finishing treatment are chosen around your case rather than a standard package. Where alignment is part of a wider smile transformation, we sequence whitening, bonding or restorative care around it.
Wellness
Weekly remote monitoring can reduce unnecessary trips to practice while keeping you closely supported. When you do visit, appointments are calm, unhurried and focused on what actually needs to be done.

Invisalign® Questions: Tamworth Guide
Considering Invisalign®? We have answered the questions patients most often ask us about cost, treatment time, refinements, whitening, retainers, appointments, suitability and travelling to our practice from Tamworth.
The cost depends on what you would like to change and which treatment is appropriate.
At The Dental Barns, composite bonding starts from £395 per tooth, genuine e.max® porcelain veneers start from £995 per tooth and clear aligner treatment starts from £4,195, with current tiers of £4,195, £5,295 and £6,395 according to complexity.
More comprehensive smile makeovers can combine several stages and therefore vary considerably in overall cost. We provide a detailed personalised treatment plan before you decide to proceed, including the recommended sequence and complete fees. You can also view our wider dental pricing online.
Invisalign® is generally provided as private treatment rather than through the NHS.
NHS orthodontic treatment is available in selected cases, particularly for younger patients with a clear clinical need, but transparent aligner systems such as Invisalign® are not normally funded. At The Dental Barns, clear aligner treatment is provided privately and currently starts from £4,195, with tiers of £4,195, £5,295 and £6,395 according to complexity.
Yes. The Dental Barns offers finance options, including up to 12 months interest-free finance, subject to eligibility.
Your full treatment cost is confirmed first so you can understand the overall investment before considering any finance option.
Invisalign® fees can vary because the headline price does not always represent the same level of treatment.
Differences may include the complexity of the case, the amount of clinician planning involved, how progress is monitored, whether refinements are required, and whether extras such as whitening or retainers are included.
At The Dental Barns, we focus on making the full treatment journey clear before you begin so you can compare like with like.
Our Invisalign® treatment is designed as a complete smile journey rather than simply a set of aligners.
Your plan includes clinician-led digital planning, Invisalign® aligners, ongoing clinical reviews, weekly DentalMonitoring® support, and—where appropriate to your final plan—Enlighten® Whitening and Vivera® retainers. Your individual treatment plan will confirm exactly what is included before you proceed.
Clear aligner treatment at The Dental Barns currently starts from £4,195.
Our current tiers are £4,195, £5,295 and £6,395. The tier is agreed according to the amount and complexity of tooth movement, bite correction, planning and refinement we expect your case to require.
We use leading clear aligner systems including Invisalign®. Before treatment begins, you receive a clear personalised plan showing the expected treatment journey, what is included and the total cost.
For some smiles, a shorter treatment time is realistic. Clear aligner technology and digital planning have moved on, but the most important part is the planning behind your treatment.
At The Dental Barns, your dentist plans your smile in-house, considering your teeth, bite and the result you want to achieve. Detailed scans and digital planning help us map out the movements and sequence your care thoughtfully.
We also look after you throughout treatment with weekly DentalMonitoring reviews. These help us follow your progress between appointments, spot when something needs attention and tailor our guidance to how your teeth are responding. The aim is to keep treatment moving efficiently, with close oversight at each stage.
The calculator is a starting point: around 6 months for simple alignment changes, 6–12 months for moderate changes and 12–18 months for more complex alignment and bite changes. These are estimates, not guaranteed finish dates. Your dentist will confirm the likely duration after assessment; aligner wear, your individual response and any refinements can affect the timing.
Yes. the Signature Assessment ✦ gives Dr Keely time to assess your dental health, understand your concerns and discuss recommendations you may already have received. It combines Smile Design, a comprehensive examination and clinically appropriate diagnostics.
We discuss your itemised treatment plan and costs on the day. Afterwards, you receive a personalised written report explaining the findings, reasoning and proposed stages of care.
The total fee is £450, with a £225 deposit deducted from that total. This pays for your assessment, plan and report, whether or not you choose to have treatment with The Dental Barns. You are welcome to take time to consider the advice or share your report with another dentist, who may need to carry out their own assessment.
A cosmetic dentist focuses on improving the appearance of the smile while protecting dental health and function.
That can involve changing tooth position with Invisalign®, refining shape with composite bonding, replacing or enhancing the visible tooth surface with e.max® porcelain veneers, whitening teeth, or combining several treatments through Smile Design.
At The Dental Barns, cosmetic dentistry is planned around the whole face and the health of the mouth rather than simply making teeth straighter or whiter.
For many patients, the first week is the biggest adjustment.
Your teeth are getting used to pressure, your tongue and cheeks are adapting to the aligners and attachments, and you are learning a new routine around eating and cleaning. These early inconveniences usually settle quite quickly as Invisalign® becomes part of everyday life.
Leaving Invisalign® aligners out for three hours regularly is not ideal.
They are normally worn for around 20–22 hours each day, so long periods without them can reduce the amount of effective wear time and may affect how well the next aligner fits. An occasional longer meal or event is unlikely to define an entire treatment, but consistency matters.
Yes. Invisalign® aligners are designed to fit closely over the teeth, so normal everyday activities — including kissing — are generally unaffected.
The aligners should feel smooth and discreet once you are used to them. Good oral hygiene and keeping the aligners clean are the main things to remember.
There is no official Invisalign® rule that says every patient must follow a specific 30-minute routine.
People often use the phrase online when talking about limiting the amount of time aligners are left out for meals, or waiting after acidic food and drink before brushing.
The important clinical rule is simpler: wear your aligners for the recommended daily time, remove them for eating and drinking anything other than water, and follow the personalised hygiene advice given by your dentist.
Sometimes additional aligners—often called refinements—are needed to fine-tune the result after the initial sequence.
Whether refinements are expected or included depends on the Invisalign® plan selected for your case. We explain this clearly within your personalised treatment plan before treatment begins so there are no surprises later.
Attachments are small tooth-coloured shapes bonded temporarily to selected teeth to help the Invisalign® aligners grip and move them more precisely.
Not every tooth or every patient needs the same attachments. Their position and number are determined by your individual digital treatment plan and they are removed when they are no longer required.
Not as often as many patients expect.
We use DentalMonitoring® to review your progress remotely each week, which means routine in-practice appointments can often be kept to a minimum. We will still bring you in whenever a clinical review or adjustment is genuinely needed.
Invisalign® aligners are normally worn for around 20–22 hours per day.
You remove them for eating, drinking anything other than water, and cleaning your teeth. Consistent wear is one of the most important factors in keeping treatment on track.
Most Invisalign® treatments take around 6 to 18 months, although this varies according to the amount and complexity of tooth movement required.
After your scan and digital planning, we will give you a much clearer idea of your likely treatment time and then track progress throughout your journey.
Long-term retention is normally required if you want to keep your teeth in their corrected position.
The exact wear pattern may change over time, but in practical terms most patients should expect retainers to remain part of their long-term routine. We will give you a clear retention plan once treatment is complete.
Yes. Retainers are essential after Invisalign® because teeth naturally have a tendency to move over time.
At The Dental Barns, we use premium Vivera® retainers from Align Technology to help protect your final result. We will also explain how often to wear them and how to look after them properly.
The most common frustrations tend to come from the routine rather than the appearance of the aligners.
Wearing them for most of the day, removing them whenever you eat, cleaning your teeth before putting them back in and keeping track of wear can take some adjustment. Some patients also notice pressure when changing aligners. Good planning and close support make the process much easier to manage.
There is no single list that automatically disqualifies everyone from Invisalign®.
Active gum disease, untreated decay, poor oral health, insufficient support around the teeth or movements that cannot be predictably achieved with aligners may mean treatment needs to be delayed or an alternative approach considered. Compliance also matters because the aligners only work when they are worn consistently.
Invisalign® is not completely effortless. The aligners need to be worn consistently, removed for meals, kept clean and changed according to your treatment plan.
Some patients notice temporary pressure, speech changes or inconvenience around eating, and attachments may be required. Clear aligners are also not the best option for every orthodontic problem. We discuss these limitations openly before recommending treatment.
When Invisalign® is properly planned and clinically monitored, treatment is designed to move teeth in a controlled way.
As with any orthodontic treatment, risks can increase if oral hygiene is poor, aligners are worn incorrectly or underlying dental problems are not addressed. Careful assessment, regular monitoring and good home care are therefore essential.
Yes. We want the foundations to be healthy before beginning orthodontic tooth movement.
Most patients describe Invisalign® as pressure rather than pain.
You may notice some tenderness for a day or two when you move into a new aligner, particularly early in treatment. This is usually mild and settles as your teeth adapt.
There is no single treatment that always looks the most natural. Natural appearance comes from choosing the right treatment and designing it well.
Sometimes the most natural result is simply straightening the existing teeth with Invisalign® and whitening them. Small shape changes can often be achieved beautifully with composite bonding. Where porcelain is appropriate, genuine e.max® veneers can reproduce enamel translucency and texture extremely well.
Our preference is always to preserve as much of your own healthy smile as possible and enhance it rather than replace its character.
Yes. Patients in their 50s can be suitable for Invisalign® just as younger adults can.
We assess gum health, bone support, existing dental work, bite and the movements required before treatment. A healthy, well-maintained mouth can respond to orthodontic treatment at many different ages.
There is no single best age for Invisalign®.
The ideal time is when your teeth and gums are healthy, you are motivated to wear the aligners consistently and the movements required can be achieved predictably with clear aligners. For adults, age itself is rarely the deciding factor.
No. There is no general upper age limit for Invisalign® treatment.
What matters far more is the health of your teeth and gums, the type of tooth movement required and whether clear aligners are appropriate for your bite. Many adults choose Invisalign® in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond.
At The Dental Barns, our Invisalign® journey is designed to finish with the overall smile in mind rather than stopping as soon as the teeth are straight.
Where included within your personalised plan, we complete treatment with Enlighten® Whitening once alignment is finished. Your treatment plan will confirm exactly what is included before you begin.
Yes, many adults choose Invisalign® after previous orthodontic treatment if their teeth have moved over time.
We assess your current tooth positions, bite and previous treatment history before deciding whether Invisalign® is the right way to correct the relapse.
Potentially, yes.
Some Invisalign® cases involve relatively small cosmetic movements, while others require more comprehensive correction. The important point is that even a small visible change still needs to be planned around your bite and long-term stability rather than moving individual teeth in isolation.
Invisalign® can be used to improve many bite problems, including selected overbite, crossbite and open-bite cases.
Suitability depends on the severity and cause of the bite issue. We assess both tooth alignment and how your upper and lower teeth function together before recommending treatment.
Yes, Invisalign® can treat many cases involving crowding and spacing.
The amount of movement possible depends on your individual tooth positions, bite and overall dental health. Your 3D scan and treatment planning allow us to assess what can be predictably achieved before you commit.
Sometimes — and when it is appropriate, doing so can make the final restorative treatment considerably more conservative.
If teeth are crowded, rotated or positioned too far forward, adding composite or porcelain directly may create unnecessary bulk or require more tooth preparation. Moving the teeth first with Invisalign® can place them in a better position before bonding or veneers are considered.
Not every patient needs orthodontics first. We assess the existing tooth position, bite and desired result before recommending the sequence.
Yes. Combining treatments is often the most conservative way to achieve a comprehensive result.
For example, Invisalign® may first improve tooth position so that less restorative material is required. Whitening can then establish the final shade, with composite bonding used for subtle shape changes or porcelain veneers used selectively where a greater restorative change is appropriate.
The important part is sequencing the treatments correctly. Our Smile Design process plans the finished result first and then works backwards to determine the safest route.
A good clinician should not have a blanket preference for one system.
Invisalign® is an excellent option for many patients who want a removable and discreet treatment, while fixed braces can be more appropriate for certain movements or more complex cases. The right recommendation should be based on your bite, tooth position and treatment goals rather than the clinician's personal preference.
Dentists may recommend Invisalign® because it can move teeth discreetly using removable clear aligners while allowing normal brushing, flossing and eating.
At The Dental Barns, the attraction is not simply that the aligners are clear. We can plan treatment digitally around your bite and smile goals, then monitor progress closely throughout the journey. It is one option among several, and we recommend it only when it is clinically suitable for your case.
Neither option is automatically better for everyone.
Invisalign® offers removable, discreet aligners and can be an excellent option for many adult patients. Fixed braces may still be more appropriate for certain movements or more complex orthodontic cases. The right choice depends on what needs to be corrected and your priorities during treatment.
Invisalign® is one brand of clear aligner treatment, produced by Align Technology. Other systems can also move teeth effectively when they are appropriately selected and planned.
The important difference is not simply the plastic itself. Diagnosis, treatment planning, clinical oversight, monitoring and retention all play a major part in the final result.
